Are you planning a trip to Nerja Spain?
I have visited Nerja several times before and I definitely agree that it is a beautiful tourist destination. So if you get a Nerja travel opportunity, make sure that you seize it, and to help you enjoy your trip, I’ve put up this Nerja travel guide just for you.
Here are some of the things you might want to know before you visit Nerja.
About Nerja
Nerja is a picturesque town along the Costa del Sol – that’s the 300-kilometre stretch of beaches in southern Spain. It used to be a fishing village and you can still see some fishing hits or feel that quiet atmosphere, but at the same time, it is bustling with excitement and has many modern tourist facilities to offer.
Nerja is located just an hour away from the city of Malaga, the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and is also just a few hours away from the Sierra Nevada National Park.
Nerja Beaches
Any Nerja travel veteran will tell you that the beaches are the best thing about Nerja. The most famous, of course, is Burriana Beach, which offers plenty of water sports facilities, though the Playa Caletilla, Playa Calahonda and Playa Torrecilla are equally lovely yet less crowded.
Sights To See In Nerja
Aside from enjoying the beaches, you can simply savor a stroll through the town, stopping by to take in the spectacular views from the famous Balcon de Europa. You can also take a trip to the edge of town to explore the Nerja Caves or drop by the Donkey Sanctuary for a fun experience.
Nerja Activities
Swimming and water sports are two of the top activities in Nerja. Aside from these, there are also a number of nice walking, horseback riding and hiking trails, and you can always go to the Sierra Nevada for more hiking opportunities, or even skiing.
You can learn more about these activities at our Nerja travel guide section.
Nerja Accommodations
While there are no luxury resorts in Nerja, there are plenty of hotels that provide excellent food, service and a friendly atmosphere. There are also villas for rent for large groups and families and a lot of apartments all over town, some very near the beaches, for smaller families and couples.
Shopping In Nerja
Nerja is not known as a haven for shoppers but there are markets held every Tuesdays and Sundays that you shouldn’t miss during your Nerja travel excursion. There are also quaint souvenir shops in the Andalucian villages nearby.
Nerja Bars And Restaurants
There is great food all over town, with many restaurants serving good paella and other hearty Spanish fare. There are some catering to international tastes, too.
Of course, no Spanish is complete without tapas bars and Nerja has its own share, where you can enjoy a round of drinks and tasty treats with the locals.
